Unlocking better outcomes: The importance of early detection.
Mammography, specifically, is a vital tool for the early detection of breast cancer, one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. By using low-dose X-rays to visualize abnormalities in breast tissue, mammography can identify tumors that are too small to be felt and detect cancers before symptoms develop. Early detection through mammography has been shown to reduce breast cancer mortality by enabling more effective and less invasive treatments, highlighting its importance in women’s health.
RUSH’s breast imaging specialists partner with you to determine the best breast imaging options for your needs, health history and preferences. When you come to RUSH for breast imaging, we’ll begin by assessing your risk of breast cancer, based on your personal and family history. We’ll also determine your breast density. We’ll evaluate all of these factors to then create your personalized breast screening plan.
Your breast cancer assessment includes an ongoing plan for annual or semi-annual screening and follow-up. If your assessment shows that you have a high risk for breast cancer, we’ll connect you with a nurse navigator who will explain your plan and walk you through every step, which may include supplemental screening exams such as ABUS or fast breast MRI. We’ll also refer you to our high-risk clinic for ongoing management and care by providers who specialize in providing care for guidance to women with a high risk of breast cancer.

Personalized care for precision detection.
Pre-cancer screenings play a pivotal role in the early detection of potentially malignant changes in cells before they develop into full-blown cancers. Early detection through screenings and mammography increases the likelihood of successful treatment, reduces the need for aggressive interventions, and ultimately improves survival rates. Screening can also help identify benign conditions that may require monitoring or intervention, and help prevent unnecessary distress and complications later on.
